Who Gets to Tell the Story? Why Indigenous Artists Belong at the Center of Indigenous Stories

A talkback with The Thanksgiving Play director Vickie Ramirez

Does an Indigenous story require an Indigenous cast? Not necessarily, but Indigenous stories benefit from Indigenous artists at the center of the creative process. Vickie Ramirez explores what changes when Indigenous artists shape, direct, and interpret Indigenous stories, and why representation behind the scenes matters as much as representation onstage.

Refreshments will be served. THE THANKSGIVING PLAY is supported in part by Marion Cultural Alliance and the National Endowment for the Arts. Community Partners: Dave Schlenker Photography • Ocala Gazette
